Customer portal: what to expose first
A portal that shows everything confuses people. Start with the three surfaces customers actually use.

Portals fail when they try to be a second website. Customers want three answers: When are you coming? What do I owe? What happened on the last visit?
Start with appointments and status
Upcoming windows, tech ETA when available, and a simple status trail reduce inbound “where are you?” calls. That alone pays for the portal for many shops.
Add invoices and payment next
Self-serve pay links and invoice history cut AR friction. Keep the language plain—amount due, due date, pay now—not accounting jargon.
Hold the rest until the basics stick
Estimates, memberships, and document vaults are valuable later. If customers cannot find their next appointment, they will not explore advanced features.
